Specialist Engineer, Electro - Mechanical Packaging

The company is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader that provides propulsion and energetics to the space, missile defense and strategic systems, tactical systems and armaments areas, in support of domestic and international markets.   Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking an Engineering Specialist with expertise in electro-mechanical packaging design (including cable harness area) to join our facility in Canoga Park, CA (Los Angeles area).   This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher. Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each) 60% - Lead and perform engineering design tasks related to design and manufacture of electrical cables and harnesses, board design interfaces for application demanding mission environments. Review higher system level requirements and identify or derive critical mechanical design requirements. Design duties also include electronics packaging of complex space electronics and electrical cables/harnesses, define electricalmechanical interface, capture designs in CREO and to fully participation in team-development environment. Provide technical oversight and technical direction for electronic packaging and cable design tasks to insure compliance to requirements and inclusion of best practices that maximize production efficiency. Support manufacturing planning for assembly & test and technical support.   20% - Support engineering development leadership team. Lead and participate in design peer reviews. Provide oversight for adherence to engineering development processes and proper execution, and result attainment. Collect and analyze engineering process metric data as required. Mentor engineering team to increase technical depth and expertise in electronic packaging design area for space and power application including trade studies and supplier evaluation. Assess and updatemechanical design development processes for electronics component packaging including cable/harness areas and power processing box designs.   20% - Create design development planning to support product development scheduling and cost analysis. Collect and submit engineering performance data for design tasks as required in support of cost account manager schedule and cost monitoring. Develop and present technical presentations to status designs and technical execution. Requirements Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering and at least 9 years of direct experience with packaging space/power electronics (including cable design) for application in harsh environments including space, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.   US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement. ID 14542
